Lewis Vineyard consistently provides deeply colored, concentrated wines due to the viticultural practice of maximum light exposure to the clusters. A cooler site, the vineyard sits at an elevation of 1200 feet in the Yakima Valley near Prosser, Washington. The first Syrah vines for this vineyard were planted in 1996. The 2021 Syrah is deep purple in color, showing both purity and intensity. The nose opens with alluring aromas of black raspberry, plum, and boysenberry layered with nuances of cocoa nibs, cracked pepper, dried herbs, and a touch of smoked tea. On the palate, the wine is vibrant yet rich, offering concentrated dark fruit wrapped in savory mineral notes and refined tannins. The 2023 vintage in the Walla Walla Valley was a dream in terms of weather. A cool wet spring, hot summer, and a warm, dry fall were ideal for finishing the fruit. A lighter crop resulted in concentrated wines with excellent balance. Our 2023 Syrah reveals the remarkable quality of the fruit with every sip. Inky colored, with aromas and flavors of marionberries, charcuterie, tapenade, anise, dark chocolate, and spice.
